Hanami is the custom of viewing the beauty of flowers, but mostly refers to the ‘sakura’ or cherry blossom – Japan’s unofficial national flower. Every March in Japan, thousands of Hanami Trees come to life as they cover the parks of Japan, signifying the start of the annual Cherry Blossom Festival. The National Rhododendron Gardens pays homage to this ancient Japanese tradition with their own version of the Hanami Festival, with Cherry Blossom trees captivating the landscape. Enjoy the beauty of the blossoms along with the myriad of other plants such as azaleas, magnolias and of course rhododendrons, whilst partaking in traditional Japanese tea and activites. This annual festival takes place in September and provides a fantastic opportunity to engage in a traditional Japanese event, and a spectacular sight that celebrates the beauty of all things Hanami. Wadaiko Rindo will also be performing during the course of the day. Come and join us for a picnic!! ENTRY IS FREE
